About Kristin Pulatie

New Mexico-based Kristin Pulatie is an adventure athlete who works in public health designing programs to address health inequities in communities around the southwest.

55 Kilometers of Canyon Running

Kristin won the lottery when her name was pulled for Canyon de Chelly Ultra, and on October 12th she’ll step up to the starting line for her first-ever ultra-marathon. The CdC is an opportunity for Kristin to push her limits in running and to fundraise for The Cairn Project’s programs supporting young women and girls as they discover their outdoor passions.⁣ Fundraising goal: $2,500.

Located in the heart of the Navajo Nation, Canyon de Chelly is one of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes of North America and one of the most significant spiritual locations to the Navajo people. Access to the canyon floor is restricted, and visitors are allowed to travel in the canyons only when accompanied by a park ranger or an authorized Navajo guide. For most visitors, the dramatic scenery of Canyon de Chelly National Monument can only be viewed from the canyon rim.

Why Get Out and Give Back?

“It is so important to help amplify the voices of women who haven’t always been visible in outdoor spaces, to ensure that they are welcome and safe, and to use our privileges and skills to share the wonder of being outside. I wish I had learned when I was much younger just how strong I could be – but anytime is better than never, and I would like to be a part of an effort to open that opportunity for other women.”
