Breaking Records to Break Down Barriers

Sunny Arizona Trail 2246

Sunny Stroeer is on a mission, and this mission isn’t just about conquering trails or setting speed records—it’s about redefining what’s possible for women in the world of outdoor adventure. As an ultra-endurance athlete and advocate for gender equity, Sunny’s drive to empower women and marginalized genders goes beyond hiking trails. Her latest adventure is an attempt to break the unsupported speed record on the 800-mile Arizona Trail, which will hopefully be one more step in her quest to inspire and create real change.

Back To Try Again

For Sunny, the trail is both a challenge and a platform. She’s gearing up to cover an ambitious 35-40 miles a day on the Arizona Trail, carrying all her food from the start and relying solely on natural water sources and public spigots along the way. The current record belongs to Heather “Anish” Anderson, a legendary figure in endurance sports. Last year, Sunny faced her own limits on this very trail when an injury forced her to abandon her record attempt after seven grueling days and 310 miles. She is back to try again, setting an example for all women and adventurers alike.

A Call to Action

So why does she push herself this hard? Sunny’s answer is simple: she loves a challenge and thrives in the face of uncertainty. But more importantly, every mile she covers on the Arizona Trail a call to action for a more inclusive outdoor community. As a trailblazer for The Cairn Project and an advocate for the GEA Alliance, Sunny is using this journey to raise funds that will support women and marginalized genders in accessing adventure sports and mountaineering experiences. Her goal is to raise $10 for every mile she travels—each dollar a contribution to programs that offer scholarships and resources, ensuring that the outdoor world is welcoming and accessible to everyone.

“How many of my miles can you support?”

Sunny’s mission is about more than just physical endurance; it’s about creating opportunities. She is inviting her supporters and community to join her on this journey, to help change the narrative around who belongs in these wild spaces. Every step on the trail is to make sure that women’s achievements in the outdoors are celebrated, supported, and normalized.

As Sunny sets off, she leaves a simple invitation: “How many of my miles can you support?” Please consider donating to her campaign as she prepares and attempts this incredible feat.
