We answer this call by mobilizing a broad network that believes in the value of outdoor programs for young women – connecting our grantees with a community of support that extends far beyond their hometowns.

At The Cairn Project, we know that connection to the outdoors fosters transformative growth and learning for girls+: seeding tenacity, strength, and the willingness to face the unexpected.
But for too many families, this opportunity for their girls remains out of reach. Our program supports widened access to nature-based learning around the US, funding scholarships and other nuts-and-bolts needs that increase accessibility for young women from ALL backgrounds.
AWE decreases barriers of entry to mountaineering for women from all walks of life. Here’s how we do that:
• We provide a platform for women to make forays into the world of mountaineering in an all-women or mostly-women environment [see our trips]
• We tell and amplify the stories of women in the high mountains and remote backcountry to provide powerful role models for women with an interest in pushing their boundaries in the outdoors [find us on Instagram]
• We offer all- or mostly-women skill-building trips and workshops as stepping stones into the big mountain realm [participate in one of our basecamp clinics]
• We provide funding for women to participate in extraordinary mountaineering expeditions, skill-building trips and stepping stone experiences [read more about the Summit Scholarship program]
How It Works
Your Role
- Fundraise with a sliding scale target from $1,500-5,000
- Actively participate in fundraising and other ambassador activities
- Contribute to storytelling for The Cairn Project’s social media
- Attend monthly virtual meetings to cover logistics, presentations, mentorship, etc. (some 1:1, some with a cohort)
- Present to the ambassador cohort upon completion of the adventure and fundraiser sharing (optional)
- Host 1+ educational or informational event(s) virtual or in-person locally sharing information about the outdoors/a sport (optional)
How We Support You
- One year membership to Outdoor ProLink pro-deals
- Mentorship from the ambassador alumni network
- Consideration for additional logistical, social, material or financial support upon request depending on individual circumstances
- Fundraising and adventure planning and support
- Support with local outdoor partnership opportunities
- Professional life coaching sessions with ambassador cohort
- Opportunity for social media takeovers, blog writing, etc. to grow online presence
