About GirlVentures

With programs that get young women out backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing in the Northern California wilderness, GirlVentures nurtures self-esteem and resilience, empowering confident young women who are conservationists and compassionate allies to each other. Difficult outdoor activities provide the format and structure through which girls develop physical, emotional, and social tools that help them navigate adventure and challenge – in the outdoors, and in their homes and communities.

“I gained the courage to step out of my comfort zone as I made friends with new groups of people, took on incredible physical challenges, stepped up as a leader, and learned to communicate my needs."

Spring Course at Pinnacles National Park

Building upon 2016-2018 support, The Cairn Project’s 2019 grant to GirlVentures will help to facilitate new affinity programs, including a spring break retreat for Girls of Color and summer expeditions for LGBTQ+ youth. In addition, support from The Cairn Project will help GirlVentures expand their Girls Climb On after school program, currently offered in Oakland, Richmond, and San Francisco, to San Jose and the South Bay.
