Why We Support Our Grantees

With more resources, our grantees can have even greater impact.

We answer this call by mobilizing a broad network that believes in the value of outdoor programs for young women – connecting our grantees with a community of support that extends far beyond their hometowns.

Backcountry-Based Programs

Multi-day expeditions can be an important touchstone in the life of a young woman, offering the opportunity to unplug and be independent in the wilderness.

BIPOC-Focused Grantees

Girls of Color face unique cultural and structural barriers to equity in outdoor leadership opportunities, and we’re proud to support organizations working explicitly to make the outdoors a place where ALL feel welcome.

Year-Round Learning Outside

Close-to-home, after-school programs offer young women a unique chance for cumulative and ongoing learning over the course of a year. Gathering girls and mentors together for biking, climbing, and outdoor adventure programs during the school year gives young women a safe space to process the pressures of school and home.

Our Peer Learning Program

A chance to connect with like-minded peers. Respite outside and time to reflect on purpose. Space to exchange perspectives on curriculum and organizational development. These sorts of opportunities are few and far between in the outdoor education sector, and none particularly serve girls-specific organizations and their leaders.

Starting in 2019, we launched an Adventure Learning Summit that offers backcountry peer learning retreats for the leaders of some our grantees. We’d heard from our partners that too often they feel isolated and disconnected from others working in this space. Our Adventure Learning Summits seek to support the individual leaders who are sustaining this critical work for our rising generation of girls.

The Impact of Your Support

Your support helps our organization deliver on its core mandate: to connect more young women to outdoor spaces and environmental education opportunities. We envision a world in which all young women feel welcomed and empowered outside.

Donations help fund our grantmaking and peer learning programs – advancing outdoor equity for girls across the country and supporting the leaders of these organizations to sustain and grow their impact.
