About makeSPACE

makeSPACE: Spearfish Partnership for Arts, Cycling and Equity was founded with a mission to provide space for all members of the Spearfish, South Dakota community to enjoy a just, healthy, and art-filled life. All programming at makeSPACE is offered on a sliding scale, meaning no one is refused participation, and the organization works with partners to recruit at least half of its participants from underserved communities.

“We want to do more than just encourage participants to ride bikes. We want to arm them with the tools they need to grow confidence, self-love, and an “I can do anything” attitude.”

New Cycling Program in Spearfish

Support from The Cairn Project will continue support to makeSPACE’s Girls on Bikes program – gravel, mountain, and road cycling opporunities for young women, girls, and LGBTQIA+ participants. Funding help to ensure that this summer’s program is accessible to all girls, including those who cannot pay tuition or supply their own equipment. As it revives in-person programming following pandemic-related pauses, makeSPACE is excited for this summer’s bike program to serve as a foundation for more cycling offerings over the next year!
