About GirlVentures

With programs that get young women out backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing in the Northern California wilderness, GirlVentures nurtures self-esteem and resilience, empowering confident young women who are conservationists and compassionate allies to each other. Difficult outdoor activities provide the format and structure through which girls develop physical, emotional, and social tools that help them navigate adventure and challenge – in the outdoors, and in their homes and communities.

“I gained the courage to step out of my comfort zone as I made friends with new groups of people, took on incredible physical challenges, stepped up as a leader, and learned to communicate my needs."

Spring Course at Pinnacles National Park

Building upon 2016-2017 grants for GirlVentures’ Girls Climb On program in San Francisco and East Bay, a 2018 grant from The Cairn Project will support new 2019 spring break programming: a wilderness retreat for girls of color at Pinnacles National Park. This new program was piloted in 2018, and a grant from The Cairn Project will help to ensure that it this unique trip becomes a standard component of the GirlVentures curriculum.
